Hot Spot Mitigation

In Normal Flow cold plates, a manifold distributes inlet coolant over the entire active area.     By varying the local flow per unit area””directing larger flows to those areas requiring higher cooling capacity””the local thermal resistance can be tailored to mitigate “hot spots”.   The flow rate can be controlled with a granularity of about 1×1 mm.   As shown below, tailoring the thermal resistance eliminates temperature gradients and reduces the total coolant flow required.
